Singhanath Temple In Cuttack Odisha is an island on the Mahanadi River, about 50km upstream of Cuttack straight from one point to the other. The towns of Gopinathpur and Baideswar are situated close to the island on the left and right banks of the waterway separately. Singhanath sanctuary on the island is an eighth c sanctuary, assembled soon after Parashurameshwar and practically the same in style. The primary sanctuary has more modest sanctums surrounding it, all arranged in a pit with their plinths well beneath the current ground level. I got to the island from Gopinathpur toward the north. Odisha’s public transportation organization (which is all private) is terrible to such an extent that the outing from Bhubaneswar and back took me the entire day!

Architect: The garbhagriha has a Shivalinga with yonipatta connected to the earth. The sanctuary is of Panchayatana style rehearsed by Adi Shankara. Sanctuaries devoted to Vishnu, Ganesh, Surya and Mahishamardini are found around the sanctuary. The sanctuary addresses the early improvement of Pancharatha Deula of Kalinga Architecture. Based on the overview, the sanctuary can be relegated to the mid ninth century AD.
