The temple of the Goddess Dhamrai is at Dhamara a little waterfront town-ship, where the stream Dhamra meets the Bay of Bengal. The spot is around 60 Kms from the area central command the eastern way. It is encircled by Chandbali in the West, Basudebpur in the North, Kalibhanjadia in the South and Bay of Bengal in the East. There are various classic stories and legends with respect to the god and the sanctuary. As per one of the authentic legends, one trader specifically Dhaneswar who regularly exchanged with the Singhalies (Srilanka) had brought a god in particular “Pashana Mangala” from Srilanka and had set up something very similar at Dhamara on his way back home. The said divinity later on came to be known as MAA DHAMARAI.

 

As per one MAA DHAMARAI of the folktales Maa Dhamrai had five sisters and was living at a spot called “Satabhaya”. Her five sisters were savage in logical inconsistency to her being simply veggie lover, which had incensed her sisters and they pushed her somewhere down in to the ocean. Coasting on the water Maa Dhamarai came towards Chandinipala and is accepted to have been trapped in the fishing net of one Sanatana Dalai and Bulei Behera who had safeguarded her and begun adoring keeping her in their home. Later on it is accepted that on that very night the sovereign of the then King of Kanika, Sailendra Narayan Bhanjadeo saw a fantasy where in Maa Dhamarai requested her to construct a sanctuary. The sanctuary worked by the then lord Sailendra Narayan Bhanjadeo constantly 1953 got annihilated and the remaining parts even was washed away into the ocean. During the said period individuals adored the god keeping her inside a covered rooftop house.

From Bideipur chhak, you have to go on left road towards Dhamara. First you will see Dhamara port which is not allowed for general public and after 3 km there is Dhamurei Temple.
