The Gahirmatha Marine Wildlife Sanctuary is the main marine safe-haven of Orissa. The Gahirmatha ocean side has been a support to grown-up ocean turtles and their children since time immemorial.

These turtles are known for the awe-inspiring excursions that they attempt yearly to raise and recover. It has been seen that Olive Ridley Sea Turtles relocate from pacific ocen through the beach front water of Sri Lanka in the Indian Ocen to the waterfront water of Gahirmatha in the north. They as a rule mate among November and January and the rearing time frame is of eight months from October to May.

It is an entrancing encounter to watch these animals slithering out of the remote ocean, working, choosing a site, digging openings, laying just about 200 eggs, covering the region and creeping back to the ocean.
